Who's down with DPP?
Hi there!
When gauging our blogging success, most of us look at total revenue numbers:
"My site made $13 yesterday."
"I made $763 from AdSense last month."
It makes sense that we're always aware of the "dollars per month" ratio because that's how we live our lives and pay our bills.
But looking at "per month" doesn't help us change our behavior in a way that gives us more dollars. We need a better ratio.
How about 'dollars per post?'
Dollars per post (DPP) is a powerful, motivating ratio because it tells you and me approximately how many more posts we'll need to publish to reach our income goals.
If you're earning $500 per month with 100 posts, you're DPP is $5.00.
If your income goal is $5,000 per month, it's safe to say you'll need roughly 1,000 posts to reach your income goal (as long as your next 900 post have roughly the same traits as your first 100).
That might freak you out - having to write 900 more posts is pretty intimidating for all of us.
But recognizing the amount of work it will take to reach your goal shouldn't discourage you - it should empower you.
It tells you how tall the mountain is; all that's left is to put one foot in front of the other until you reach the summit.
And that's why 'dollars per post' is such an exciting, powerful ratio.
But wait a minute - what if your DPP isn't anywhere close to $5.00 (or $2, or even $1)?
If you're earning $6 per month off 100 posts, you're probably pretty depressed right now. 6 cents per post isn't exactly a path to riches and freedom is it?
Relax.
Your DPP will rise over time.
I'll make you two promises (IF you'll stick with your blog for the next couple of years):
1. Your DPP will naturally rise as your site's age and Google authority improve over time. Age and increased authority mean more traffic, and more traffic means more money.
2. As you spend more time with your blog, your ability to convert visitors to income will improve through testing and experience.
I still remember talking to a Keyword Academy member a few years back who was earnining about $500 per month using Google AdSense. I told him the site could definitely earn north of $5,000 per month if he'd experiment with selling an ebook. He literally gasped.
He did that experiment and today that site often bumps up against $10,000 per month in income.
Ramp up your output! More posts will ulimately yield more traffic and income.
Let the math work for you, and get paid!
Have a great one, and thanks for reading.
- Mark
