How your Browser Speeds up Cross Domain Loading using DNS Prefetching

You're no doubt familiar with image pre-loading. It's used in situations where you have links to images in your web page so that they appear immediately upon clicking the link. What works for images also applies to IP addresses. Most of the latest browsers now prefetch all the IP addresses of externally-hosted pages that are linked to the current page. That's called DNS prefetching, and most of the time, it is enabled by default. So, while you are reading a web page, your browser is looking up all the IP addresses of linked pages, so that when you click any of the links, it doesn't have to send requests back and forth between the ISP and DNS server.
