After months of speculation, Edaran Tan Chong Motor recently unveiled the all-new Nissan Almera that will be Nissan's entry level model for the Malaysian market. Deemed to be able to compete with the likes of the Toyota Vios and Honda City here in Malaysia, the Nissan Almera certainly looks like decent competition to the two models above, and will be delivered as CKD versions that carry price tags of between RM70k up to RM85k. Let's browse through the details of this car now!
Well-recognized as the replacement model for the Latio, the Almera will fall into the B-segment, and comes with a large, spacious interior that will please those that love roomy vehicles. The exterior is curvier than the Latio, and from the dimension figures that we received the general size of the Almera is slightly larger compared to the Latio. Wheelbase measures in at 2,600mm, which is pretty decent while the boot volume is 490 litres according to Tan Chong. If space is your requirement, then you would definitely be happy with the Almera.
The car carries a 1.5-litre engine (DOHC and CTC powered) that will generate up to 102PS of power and 139Nm of torque. Transmission-wise, you can choose from a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto. Not too great in terms of performance, but fuel consumption is apparently 14.9 litres/ 100km travelled on combined cycle, very respectable indeed. With equipment such as Intelligent Key with push-start option, auto climate control and steering wheel audio controls being offered, the car is certainly well-equipped! Continue Reading »
